Saturday, February 21, 1pm, Ed Nizalowski

February is African American History Month, an ideal time to learn about the contributions and history of African Americans. Historian Emma Sedore, and Ed Nizalowski, Director of the Bement-Billings Farmstead Museum, will discuss Tioga County’s African American history on Saturday, February 14 and 21, at the Tioga County Historical Society Museum.

Emma Sedore is the Tioga County Historian. She has held the position of historian for a total of 28 years; first, by the town of Owego, and since 2001, by Tioga County. She has authored three books and is recognized as a Registered Historian by the Association of Public Historians of New York State.

Ed Nizalowski was the librarian at the Newark Valley High School from 1985 to 2010 and is currently the Director of the Bement-Billings Farmstead Museum. He has written articles for Afro-Americans in New York Life and History (1985-87) and Seasons of Change, the Bicentennial History of Tioga County (1991). In 1985 he received an Award of Merit from Regional Council of Historical Agencies (NY) for research and presentations into Afro-American history in Tioga County.

The event will be held at the TCHS Museum, 110 Front Street in Owego, NY.
