Genealogical and Local History

Our genealogical library contains over 300,000 index cards of surnames including information from census records, newspaper accounts, family Bible information, family folders, excerpts from local history books, as well as individual family name books. 

Volunteer genealogists respond only to requests by mail. A flat fee of $25 is charged per inquiry for searches up to one hour in length. Additional research time charges per inquiry are are $25 per hour. A $.25 per page copy charge is made for all documents provided.   All requests are handled in the order in which they are received and response time depends upon volume and volunteer availability.  Please provide pertinent information including your full name and address to ensure thorough research and response.

You are also welcome to come to the library to do your own research.  At present we have volunteers to assist you each afternoon.

There is a small donation requested for non-Members and we would welcome your membesrhip. Membership provides free use of our research facilities. (MEMBERSHIP FORM)

Please note: Archival materials may not be available on the same day you come in, the staff needs 24 hour notice to pull requested materials, especially for Saturdays. 

Reproduction of manuscripts or photographs may be restricted:
- Condition of the material
- Legal restrictions
- Considerations of confidentiality and privacy
- donor requirements
Note: It is the researchers responsibility to cite their sources.

Scanners are not allowed. The staff can offer you alternatives to obtaining material for publication, etc.
